About the Author – Robin Riedstra

I have been a school teacher since 2003 and have encountered many wonderful students, teachers, support staff, and parents in my days. I have also dabbled in short film and script writing winning an ‘Audience Choice Award’ at the 2004 EyeScream horror film festival in the “Best of the Rest” category, and placing in the top fifty for Project Greenlight Australia in 2005 before focusing on my teaching career fulltime. I have always been passionate about writing and completed two novels when I was in Primary School. My older brother found them hysterically funny but unfortunately not quite in the way I wanted them too. Everybody’s a critic. So I set aside my dreams of being the next Enid Blyton (but with a sense of humour) and became a teacher instead. Which has proved to be a very entertaining career. I am currently working on a series of seven novels that explores the Adventures of Miss Chloe Prime and Joshua Suza through Beta School. Adults feel free to check out my blog at http://riedstrap.wordpress.com or follow me on twitter. Favourite Children’s Books

When I was growing up my favourite bookswere “Those Dreadful Children” and the “Far Away Tree” Series by Enid Blyton. The image of the giant willow in “Those Dreadful Children” and the fairy magic of the “Enchanted Woods” really captured my imagination. It gave me a lovely world to escape into. I also loved “The BFG” by Roald Dahl. I liked the idea of being taken away by a friendly giant.

Favourite Young Adult Books

I really enjoyed reading “Graceling” by Kristin Cashore and “Tender Morsels” by Margo Lanagan. Both create really vivid images and strong characters that you think about long after you put the book down.

Favourite Adult Books

I am a huge fantasy fan and really enjoyed “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss. Absolutely love the structure of the novel and his blog is also excellent to read. Lots of great tips on writing. Out of non-fantasy or science fiction books I would have to say my two favourites are “Perfume” by Patrick Susskind, it’s not for the faint hearted and “The Elegance of the Hedgehog” by Muriel Barbery. It is absolutely excellent with such carefully chosen use of language. It truly is an exceptional read.

Ah Glen. I’ve had a few emails about him. He seems to be quite the charasmatic goldfish.
